About reflexology

Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy that can be effective in promoting deep relaxation and wellbeing. It is a touch therapy that is based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears (reflexes) correspond with different areas of the body and reflexologists work these points and areas.

How can reflexology help?

As a reflexologist I cannot claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is tailored to you as a whole person, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing. Some people find it works for them – some don’t. The best way to find out is to try it!

The theory is that reflexology helps the body to restore its balance naturally. Usually, after a treatment your tension may be reduced and you might feel relaxed. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of wellbeing improving. You may also find that other aspects improve too; however, this happens on an individual basis.

With our busy, modern lives, stress and anxiety statistics are higher than ever. Over time, stress can manifest into physical ailments, even if we aren’t particularly aware that we are stressed. Reflexology may be a way to help to ease the stresses of modern life and restore balance within the body.

Is reflexology suitable for me?

Reflexology is a therapy which can be received by anyone at any age, from new-born babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment. Please do get in touch with any questions if you are unsure.

Please note: reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice.

What happens during a treatment?

Before the treatment I will be in touch with a medical history and consent form to complete. The information will be kept confidential. Reflexology is safe for anyone of any age to receive, however there are times where I may not be able to give a treatment. By checking any medical issues first, I can determine whether we can proceed with an appointment.

Reflexology is a very easy therapy to receive; depending on the type of reflexology, the most clothing that will have to be removed for a treatment to take place will be your socks and shoes. Please arrive in comfortable clothing.

The treatment itself will take place in my relaxing zero gravity reclining chair. A pillow will be placed under your feet, all you need to do is relax! During the treatment I will be using reflexology balm and cream to apply pressure to your feet or hands, working each reflex of the foot or hand throughout the treatment. If you have any particular ailments, I may spend more time working a few specific reflex areas. You may feel some tenderness in some areas which is completely normal, however, the treatment overall all should be a relaxing experience.

A course of treatments may be recommended to restore balance throughout the body.

After the treatment

After your treatment we will discuss the treatment. It is useful to give me feedback as this may show the response of your body to the treatment.

It is recommended that after your treatment you:

  • Take an hour’s rest

  • Drink plenty of water,

  • Don’t eat a heavy meal

  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol and tobacco.
